ICT all around us

It is important that children realise that ICT means more than just computers, and the practitioner needs to make this explicit by pointing out examples of ICT all around them.
Where possible, children should be given the opportunity to interact with the technology they see around them , for example being shown how to use the remote control, recording an answerphone message, programming the microwave or using the photocopier.
Below are some examples of ICT of which children could be made aware

In school or at home….
tv
video
CD player/tape player
remote controls
cooker
microwave
fridge
toaster
washing machine
light switches
fire alarms/ smoke alarms

In the office…
